As the weather turns cold across Ohio, Leaders Moving & Storage Co. is back on the road for Coats 4 Children, a volunteer-run Columbus nonprofit that provides new winter coats to children in need throughout the state.
For years, Leaders has donated its trucks and crews to handle deliveries for Coats 4 Children at no cost. Once the nonprofit arranges its drop-off locations, Leaders crews load the coats and deliver them to schools and community partners. From there, teachers, principals, school nurses, guidance counselors, pantry workers and Boys & Girls Clubs help make sure each coat reaches a child who needs it.
This season is already a busy one. Coats 4 Children recently wrapped up a coat drive with Nationwide and is finishing another community drive on November 1. A third Leaders truckload of deliveries is scheduled to follow.
A team effort
Coats 4 Children’s volunteers organize the drives and arrange every delivery location. Leaders gets the coats there. This fall, the Coats 4 Children team thanked the Leaders crew for being friendly and helpful at every delivery stop.
Why this cause hits close to home
For Jay Farley, COO at Leaders, supporting Coats 4 Children is about more than logistics.
“I think helping the community is always a good thing, and helping children specifically is even better,” he said.
Jay knows from his own childhood how much a warm coat can mean to a kid, and how much it matters that the coat doesn’t stand out. That’s a big part of why Coats 4 Children resonates with him. The organization provides a wide variety of new coats from retail stores, so no child is singled out for receiving one.
“This organization provides many different coats, and from stores, so the dignity of the children in need is protected,” Jay said.
A natural fit for a moving company
Leaders spends every day getting people’s belongings where they need to go, safely and on time. Bringing that same care to a truckload of winter coats for Ohio kids is a natural extension of what the team does.
